    HTC Sync

Hello. I've had my EVO 4G for about a year now, and once I upgraded to longer-life batteries, I have generally loved this phone.

Recently, photos and videos have filled up my phone, preventing me from being able to download updates to applications, take more photos, etc.

I thought HTC Sync would make this problem no problem at all, allowing me to cut and paste photos/videos from the phone to my PC using a USB connection, freeing up space on the phone.

I downloaded and installed the latest version of HTC Sync, ran it, and plugged my phone into the PC USB port.

Checked "HTC Sync" as the USB connection type.

Phone spun its wheels for a while, claimed it was searching for HTC Sync. Never did find it, although the program is installed, open, and waiting.

As I looked around the Web, I found two disturbing things:

    1) This is a ridiculously common problem people are having (with all HTC devices)
    2) Despite the masses of people experiencing this problem, I have YET to find a fix.

So I'm here, looking for advice/help/software, whatever will make this work.

    Thanks.

Apparently in order to connect with HTC Sync you need to enable USB Debugging on the phone. To enable USB Debugging on the EVO follow the steps:

    1. Menu button, then tap on Settings
    2. Select Applications
    3. Tap Development
    4. Check USB Debugging, confirm with OK

Appreciate the response, and hope it helps someone, but Debug is checked and it's still not finding the phone (or my phone is not finding HTC Sync on the PC.)

The official manual offers this help:

    Note:
If your device displays a message indicating that it’s unable to find HTC Sync, try disconnecting and reconnecting
the USB cable, and then repeat step 2.
    1. Connect your device to the computer with the supplied USB cable. Or, if your device is already connected, press and hold the status bar and drag your finger down to open the Notifications panel. Then tap the status that shows Select to change USB connection type.
    2. On the Connect to PC screen in your device, tap HTC Sync and then tap Done.
    3. Your device attempts to find HTC Sync on your computer. Wait for a few seconds for the process to finish

If it doesn't work, what version of Windows are you running? Is it 32 or 64bit?

Yeah, unfortunately those steps didn't help my phone find the program on the PC. I'm running Win 7 64bit.

It may be a problem with the drivers. Disable automatic driver update from windows, then re-install the newest HTC Sync with Windows 7 drivers. Remember to switch the settings back once you get it to work!

To disable automatic driver update do the following:

    1. Open Devices and Printers by clicking the Start button , and then, on the Start menu, clicking Devices and Printers.
    2. Right-click the name of your computer, and then click Device installation settings.
    3. Click NO, don't do this automatically, and then click Save changes.
