Will we see a Android 2.2 firmware update?
Does anyone know if we are likely to see a 2.2 update in the future? Is HTC decent about getting this out, or is what the development community likely to offer something better?

I heard HTC is a bit slow with firmware, as they will likely slap their HTC Sense UI (which is a good thing imo) on top of Android. Im not sure if Sprint will have anything to do with the firmware, or so I hope.

Already out in the wild running 2.2. Although i'm not sure how stable the rom may be; it refreshing to know the chefs are in the kitchen!

Very refreshing indeed. With the phone already rooted, and developers working on roms (I know KyleCole is a member/developer here), it looks like we will have a lot to look forward to with the Evo.

My guess is that we will see it in a custom rom long before an official one. HTC has a long been a interest to custom rom developers, and it seems this has only increased with the Android platform.

A 2.2 announcement a day after the new iPhone specs are released would be nice. Wishful thinking?

Unfortunately not... After attending the Sprint Expo this past Wednesday; In my conversation with a Sr. Engineer / Application Developer he stated:
"We're looking at 4 to 6 months before an OTA is available for public release. The problem lies with integrating Sense UI..."
Wishful thinking, yes.
Wishful execution, no.

Dang. So with 2.2 Froyo how would Sprint go about the extra 30 a month for WiMax? I am sure they wouldn't simply remove the fee because of an update in firmware....

I'm sure that will be customized for Sprint, to accomodate the hotspot plan. Incidentally, HTC has just recently said they expect to have 2.2 on new models (EVO, Incredible, etc) by the end of the year.
