Will The Evo 4g get Ice Cream Sandwich?

I am hoping to god that we will. Can someone post any links to proof or not of this happening? If all else fails will i be able to go through the trouble of rooting it onto the phone?

I doubt it. It would run very slow on Evo 4G. The only official response I found was on the Sprint forum, but it says basically nothing:

The question was about Evo Shift 4G:

I know it's early yet, but I was wondering whether it has been (or when it will be) decided whether the Evo Shift 4G will be upgraded to the next Android release when it comes out. I just like to know about these things as far ahead of time as possible. Thanks.

Ice Cream Sandwich for Evo Shift 4G?

    Hi,
Thank you for your question. At this time we cannot speculate if your android based device will be upgraded to that version. Just to let you know when there is a new update your phone will notify you.

That is a very poor comparison to the Evo 4g. Other than the keyboard, the Evo 4g shift has inferior specs to the Evo 4g and aside from the name, it has nothing in common - PCWorld Spec Sheet

Second of all he didn't say anything negative about it, just that they have no news yet. Do a little better research next time..

HTC provides little details about the upcoming Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade. Check the official statement from HTC:

We are excited about the latest update for Android, Ice Cream Sandwich, and are currently reviewing its features and functionality to determine our upgrade plans. Our goal for Android updates is to give every customer an improved user experience, which means balancing each phone's unique hardware, HTC Sense experience and the Android kernel. While our goal is to upgrade as many of our recent devices as possible, we are committed to maintaining every phone's performance and usability first. Please stay tuned for more updates on specific device upgrade plans.

The way I am understanding it is that no matter what, the EVO 4G will get some sort of update in 2012.

Looks like Evo 4G is NOT going to get the update. It is not on the HTC published list.
