Problem with contact list / gmail

I am using Gmail to sync all my contacts to my phone. I have noticed that recently when I try to send a email from my Evo, Gmail is adding a <mailto> tag at the front of the email address.

There is no <mailto> in the contact on the Gmail website. Where is this coming from?

The issue is that when I try to send the email, Gmail complains that its not a valid email address, and I have to go manually remove the <mailto> tag on my phone, then it sends fine.....

How can I resolve this? Anyone else experienced this problem???

Verify there are no <mailto> tags in your contacts on the phone. You don't have them on the Gmail website, but maybe they got inserted during the sync.

There isn't anything in the email addresses for each contact on the phone itself........ no <mailto> tag there.

What if you manually add a new contact on the phone? Is the <mailto> tag present if you try to e-mail the new contact?

Yes, if I add a contact on the phone, it also gets the <mailto> tag. I am assigning this new contact to the "Google" contact type, since I want it to sync up to my Gmail......

But yes, if I create a new user on the phone, the <mailto> tag is there
