My phone's stuck on bootloop and I can't seem to fix it.

    Hey everyone.
So I rooted my HTC EVO 4G about a year and a half ago - I started with CM7, moved to CM9 and then a ROM called JellyBread[1] . It's been updated once after that, so I'm rather comfortable with the whole flashing process.
Today, after a rather short phone call, I took the phone away from my ear to push the disconnect button on screen, but it wouldn't light up. Thinking that the phone perhaps locked, I pushed the unlock button but nothing happened at all. After which I tried restarting my phone, then BOOM - bootloop!
Turning the phone onto Recovery mode and selecting "Recovery" again brought me to bootloop! I realized that somehow PC36IMG.zip had gone missing (I verified this by using an SD card reader.) Since I had a backup copy of the file, I copied it onto my card, and restarted my phone (into recovery mode). It now detects the presence of the file, and tells me that I have to update it - but once that is done and I reboot the device as instructed, it goes back to the EVO 4G splash screen for about 6 minutes, then goes back into the damn bootloop. Upon restarting further, I have to go through the whole update thing again, so clearly this update isn't working. (I'm using SmelkusMod 4.3, the version included on the ROM thread over at XDA.)
I have absolutely no idea how I can fix this. Can someone help me? I can't even identify if it's something wrong with the bootloader or with the ROM installed.
    Thanks!

Get to recovery and Wipe dalvik cache and cache and reboot your phone. If that does not work, go back to recovery and restore a nandroid backup (you did nandroid backup your current rom, didn't you?). Finally, you may have to reflash the rom. Make sure you backup your apps with Titanium Backup
    TOSHIBA Thrive Favum 1.1d ROM
HTC EVO 4G Decks Reloaded ROM
HTC EVO 4G MIUI ICS ROM (wife's)
B&N Nook Color CM 7.2 Mirage Kang ROM
    Samsung Galaxy Prevail Mokee ROM
    EVO Shift MikRunny ROM
    LG 500G Stock
